Blog Jammin with Mikey Treehorn: Eli, Mike, Tom and Brady da Baby

It's been just three days since the Giants won the Super Bowl and to tell you the truth, each day just keeps getting better.  The weather is warmer, jokes are funnier and the highlight clips are endless.  I mean, how many times have you watched the Manning to Tyree play?  Today I want to get into Eli, Strahan, the Coach, and the Tom Brady Snub

-ELI, the New York Legend:   Eli Manning is now a New York hero.  I was talking to my good friend John, who is the only Eli Manning fan that I actually know.  When it comes to the Big Blue, there is no player that John stands by like #10.  John's been riding a one Mann bandwagon since the Jints drafted the kid out of Ole Miss in 2004.  John, a lifelong season ticket holder, never criticizes the Kid and wears his bright red Eli jersey to every single home game, literally, every single home game.  When Eli's was taking shots from everybody and their uncle, John stood by him, like Hillary did for Bill.  Ya see, in New York, we love a winner, but more than that, we love somebody that fights and stands up to the beast of adversity.  Manning never threw in the big blue towel.  Through it all, Eli never backed down.  Sunday after Sunday, he gave us everything he had, and he never seemed to get flustered by the critics.  Somehow, he never let that ole southern smile leave his boyish face.  And my pal John never gave up on him. A lot of Giants fans, incuding the author of these words, are eating crow because of Eli.  Not John.  Never again Eli, will you get blasted in the New York media bro.  Your Untouchable......

-Strahan:  A wild Ride: Three days ago Michael Strahan was a ringless star with a solid shot at Canton, Ohio .  Now, Strahan is a New York Gridiron God who will forever remain in the hearts of loyal NY football fans.  The Hall of Fame is a sure bet for #92.  With a champioship, he has Derek Jeter status now.  Not to mention that Strahan has more personality in his elbow than Jeter has in his whole body.  Did you see the way Strahan controlled the crowds yesterday?  From City Hall to the Swamp, the fans just fed off of his energy. The organization too. Hands down, Strahan is the second greatest Giants' defensive player in the history of the team.  Of course, he's behind LT.  But, let's keep in mind that at this age, LT started slowing down. (Wait, wasn't he actually retired?) On the other hand, there is no question that Michael Strahan is still at the top of his game.  Do us all a favor Mike, skip training camp in '08.

-The Coach: The next one I want to discuss is Coughlin.  What a great story. They say that a coach is supposed to embody and reflect the attitude and style of their football team.  Well, the same can be said for the city that they play in.  There is no better example for this than Bill Cowher.  He was a Pittsburgh guy, in Pittsburgh, and the fans loved him.  They fed off of his hard nosed mentality and his cut-throat determination on the sidelines.  Well, now, the same can be said for Tom Coughlin.  He embodies everything that represents what NYC is all about:  Taking no crap from people, being tough, being a leader, never giving up, etc.  (Trust me, I could keep going.)  Never have I seen a Giants coach that appreciates and understands the importance of the organization that he works for like Coughlin does.  (You better believe I'm calling out Parcells, Reeves, and Fassel.  Parcells bailed on Big Blue, Reeves wasn't New York enough, and Fassel, well, Fassel, Nuff Said.)  From the second he got here in '04, Coughlin has been like  Southern preacher, focusing in on the Pride of the NYG and trying to hammer it in to the players and fans.  Today, Giant fans have never felt so proud.  Another thing I love about Coughlin is how he works with the fans to increase the NOISE during home games.  Just becasue he is the coach, it doesn't mean that he is above pumping up the crowd by raising his arms high up in the air.  To me, it just makes me think, "Boy this SOB really wants to win."  And when it comes to the importance of getting the crowd up for the game, he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty.

Brady the Baby -  This is the last thing I want to get into.  Did you see how Tom Brady snubbed Eli Manning before the game Sunday?  As the G-men were rolling onto the field, Eli gave Brady a slight tap on the shoulder.  Not only did Brady ingnore Eli, but he had this ugly ass scowl on his face like he had just drank a glass of lemon juice.  Granted, it's the Super Bowl, and you have to keep a competive edge.  But while Easy Eli looked like a free spirit who had been to the show before, Tom Brady looked like an uptight soldier, unwilling to give his opponent any type of respect.  If you had no idea who either player was, you would have thought that this was Eli's 4th Super Bowl, not his first.
