Decisions, Decisions posted on 05/09/2008
What type of moves should the Yankees make in the off-season? First off, they will have to decide what to about a GM (either re-sign Cashman, or don't). Additionally, they need to think about what free-agents they will pursue. Sabathia is a free-agent to be. AJ Burnett has an option to opt-out of his contract with Toronto, and Milwaukee's Ben Sheets is also atop the list. Mussina, Pettitte, and Abreu are amongst those as well. I say re-sign Abreau. I happen to really like him. The problem with the Phillies is that the fans expected Abreu to be that "Franchise Guy". Here in NY, he is simply a role player, and a good one at that. Pettitte can stay too. Nothing lengthy, but perhaps a ear or two. Depending upon what Mussina does this season, that decision is yet to be made. However,

Cashman in or out? posted on 05/09/2008
It seems to me that Brian Cashman has made yet another decision blunder for the Yankees organization. This was his call, and call it he did. Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy (neither one of whom are in the Yankees rotation at this point in time) are a combined 0-10, with two no decisions and something like an 18.00 ERA. This is completely unacceptable. Phil Hughes however, I would have a hard time dealing with, but... he has been hurt twice now at the age of 21. Santana, nothing as of yet, with a couple of Cy Youngs to speak of. Ian Kennedy? 18 innings of scoreless work last season, ok great. Enough to hold him back as the last piece of the Santana to the Yankees trade? I think not. I would love this whole scenario to prove me wrong, but it doesn't look good and right now, we have to listen to rumors of David Wells and a possible return to the Bronx. Can we sign any more 40+ year old pitchers?!?! Should the Yankees offer Cashman an extension for the 2009 and beyond season?
