Former world heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs defeated Rafael Pedro by a one-punch knockout a mere 28 seconds into their bout Tuesday night in Hollywood, Florida.
“That’s all I needed,” said Briggs, 38, a Brooklyn native who once was considered a major boxing prospect in the mid-1990s. “It was a fast night for me but that’s how a lot of my fights end.”
Briggs’ (49-5-1, 43 KOs) victory over Pedro (20-9-1, 14 KOs) was the 28th time he has trumped one of his opponents in the first round.
Briggs, a New York Golden Gloves champion, was a legitimate pugilist in his prime.
Unfortunately, the previously chiseled Briggs now weighs a doughy 263 Lbs and he needs to retire from prizefighting before he gets seriously injured in the ring.
Considering this is the rogue sport of boxing, it is extremely unlikely at this juncture that Briggs will sensibly vacate the brutal Sweet Science.
Instead, “The Cannon” will soon surely be on the receiving end of a violent and “fast night.”
