University of Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin was suspended for 30 days without pay this past weekend after he used a slur generally targeted at gays to describe Notre Dame’s chant before last December’s Hawaii Bowl.

In the aforementioned contest, the Irish destroyed the Warriors 49-21 on Christmas Eve to finally win their first bowl game since the 1993 season.

However, instead of providing Notre Dame and their players with proper praise for their shire domination, McMackin went on a bizarre tangent against the Irish and their Head Coach, Charlie Weis, Thursday at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) football preview in Salt Lake City.

“The night before the game,  Charlie gave this talk, and he goes, ‘Any Notre Dame fans in here?’” said McMackin, 64, as he recounted a banquet the evening prior to their bowl game. “He had his guys, ‘We do something special at Notre Dame,’ he said, and they do this little cheer, like this, this faggot little dance. So, my guys are looking at me and they are all trying not to laugh.”

Strikeforce announced that World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) Heavyweight Champion, Fedor Emelianenko, signed a multi-fight agreement to fight for their promotion Monday.

“Strikeforce is a top promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world,” said Emelianenko, 32, who will make his debut for the company sometime this fall. “I am prepared to fight any of them.”

Emelianenko (30-1), who had negotiated all last week with UFC to no avail, is considered by many analysts and fighters to be the greatest mixed martial artist in history.

Despite his lofty stature in the world of MMA, it is hard to understand Emelianenko’s decision to snub the UFC and it will be even more difficult for genuine fight fans to now recognize the Russian as anything except a yellow-bellied coward.

The New York Times reported last week that Boston Red Sox World Series heroes of yesteryear, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, are two of a 104 players who tested positive for performance enhancing drugs when baseball conducted its "anonymous" testing survey in 2003.

Ramirez, 37, being fingered by the renowned publication as a charlatan is not a surprise considering that the slugging hemorrhoid resumed playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers just last month after he served a 50 game suspension for abusing women's fertility drugs.

On the flipside, most of New England was comically shocked and shattered when the beloved Ortiz, 33, was finally exposed as the cheating weasel that he has been for years.

Big Papi, a five-time All-Star selection and four-time Silver Slugger Award winner, had been a harsh and outspoken critic of juiceheads.

Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane was arrested early-Sunday morning after he allegedly assaulted a cab driver in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y.

According to a police report, Kane, 20, and his cousin, James Kane, 21, were pinched by the fuzz at approximately 5:00 AM after a physical dispute erupted between the kin and the cabbie over a measly 20 cents in change.

The driver was reportedly given $15 for his fare.

However, once the driver informed the obvious drunks that he didn’t have exact change, he was repeatedly punched in the face by the cheap duo before they stole the money back.

“They broke my glasses, they ripped my clothes…all over 20 cents,” cab driver Jan Radecki recounted.

Radecki, whose nose was broken in the brazen attack, said the first overall selection in the 2007 NHL Draft and the winner of the 2008 Calder Trophy bragged about his stature while he proceeded to beat him.

Iconic prizefighter Muhammad Ali was honored before the New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox 13-6 last Thursday night at the new Yankee Stadium.

In tribute, to “The Greatest,” I decided to rank the five most accomplished heavyweight pugilists of the past quarter century.

I want to emphasize that I am nominating the most accomplished fighters, and not the most skilled.

Without further adieu, below are my rankings.

1)      Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 wins by KO)- Lewis, 43, became the WBC heavyweight champion by default in 1993 after Riddick Bowe cowered and refused to scrap the mammoth Brit.

Bowe’s pink decision made Lewis the first and only world heavyweight titleholder to hail from Britain in the 20th century.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed banished quarterback and convicted canine killer Michael Vick last week to a one-year contract worth $1.6 million.

Vick, 29, is permitted to participate in all team practices and meetings, as well as the Eagles’ last two preseason games.

Vick, whose alias is Ron Mexico, will be eligible for full reinstatement by week six at the absolute latest.

Longstanding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb reportedly sent his coach Andy Reid a text message that read “sign him” shortly after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell ruled that Vick would be allowed to play at some point in the 2009 season.

McNabb, 32, a five-time Pro Bowl selection and the winner of the 2004 NFC Offensive Player of the Year award, is the Eagles’ all-time leader in career wins, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

The 1998 New York Yankees are widely considered one of the greatest baseball teams ever assembled.

The Bombers finished that magical season with a franchise record regular-season standing of 114-48.

New York’s shire dominance over a span of 162 games extended into the playoffs and the squad eventually captured their unprecedented 24th World Series championship after they swept the overmatched San Diego Padres in four decisive games.

Ultimately, the Yankees won an amazing total of 125 games against a measly 50 losses.

The 1998 Yankees are the benchmark for excellence on the diamond.

Currently, the 2009 version of the Yankees own a stellar mark of 76 wins in comparison to 45 losses.

The Bombers .628 winning percentage is the best record in all of Major League Baseball.

Former Boston Red Sox outfielder and undeserving Hall of Famer, Jim Rice inexplicably criticized New York Yankees icon Derek Jeter at a news conference Friday before the start of the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.

“You see a Manny Ramirez, you see an A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez), you see (Derek) Jeter,” said Rice, 56, who had a cameo in the prequel to Brokeback Mountain-Fever Pitch, and who revealed during his Hall of Fame acceptance speech that he is a devoted fan of The Young and the Restless. “Guys that I played against and with, these guys you’re talking about cannot compare.”

The surly and unlikable eight-time All-Star selection, who was elected to Cooperstown by the skin of his grundle this summer on his 15th and final year of eligibility out of shire pity, continued his unfounded rant.

New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez played impressively in Gang Green’s 27-25 preseason victory over the New York Giants Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

Sanchez, 22, completed 13 of 20 passes for 149 yards in his first start since Head Coach Rex Ryan named him the No. 1 quarterback last Tuesday after a game versus the Ravens in Baltimore.

“He (Sanchez) played great," Ryan said of the former USC signal-caller who the Jets selected in April with the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft. “He is what we thought he was.”

Sanchez, a symbol of Mexican-American identity who signed a five-year contract worth $50 million with the Jets in June, displayed great poise and arm strength in the face of the Giants relentless pass rush.
