SI.com reported earlier this week that IBO and Ring Magazine light welterweight champion Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao tested negative for performance-enhancing substances both before and after he captured the WBO welterweight title from Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena last month.

In a brutal exhibition of power and speed, Pacquiao (50-2-3, 38 KOs) bludgeoned Cotto (34-2, 27KOs) and was awarded a 12th round technical knockout to become the first pugilist to ever win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions on November 14.

Almost immediately upon the conclusion of the fight, fans began clamoring for a matchup that would pit Pacquiao versus undefeated former champion “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather, Jr (40-0, 25 KOs).

IBO Cruiserweight Champion Danny Green pummeled Roy Jones, Jr. en route to being awarded a decisive first round TKO victory Wednesday in his native land of Sydney, Australia.

Green (28-3, 25 KOs), who predicted that he would quickly defeat Jones (54-6, 40 KOs), landed a series of powerful combinations at the outset of the fight and English referee Howard Foster justifiably decided to halt the bout after only 122 seconds.

“I didn’t surprise myself,” said Green, 36, who captured his crown in August when he trumped Argentina’s Julio Cesar Dominguez.

Jones, who was named “Fighter of the Decade” for the 1990’s by the Boxing Writers Association of America, lost for only the sixth time since he made his professional debut in 1989.

The 2009 Heisman Trophy will be awarded to the most outstanding NCAA college football player by the Downtown Athletic Club at an annual ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in New York City on December 12.

In recognition of college football’s greatest individual accolade, I decided to rank the five Heisman winners who ultimately had the smallest impact playing in the National Football League (NFL) over the course of the past 25 years.

1)      Jason White- White, 29, won the Heisman Trophy in 2003 as a quarterback for the University of Oklahoma Sooners.

White finished his collegiate career as the Sooners all-time leader in passing yards (8,012) and touchdown passes (81).

Despite his stellar achievements in Norman, White garnered very little interest from the professional ranks and he was not selected in the 2005 NFL Draft.

HBO’s World Championship Boxing is scheduled to televise a solid doubleheader this weekend.

In the main event, former two-time welterweight champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams will fight WBC Super Welterweight champion Sergio Gabriel Martinez in a nontitle middleweight bout Saturday at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom in Atlantic City, N.J.

Williams (37-1, 27 KOs) was originally slated to fight Kelly Pavlik on the identical date.

However, the matchup was canceled because Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs) has not healed from two surgeries he was forced to undergo to treat a stubborn staph infection in his left hand.

Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs), a physical specimen who is widely considered one of the top junior middleweights in the world, will prove to be a very difficult opponent for Williams, 28.

Psychotic Los Angeles Lakers small forward Ron Artest claimed this week that he boozed a French cognac during games when he played for the Chicago Bulls from 1999-2002.

“I used to drink Hennessy at halftime,” Artest, 30, said in an interview with the Sporting News. “I kept it in my locker. I’d just walk to the liquor store and get it.”

Artest, who was born and raised in the Queensbridge projects in Queens, New York, played college basketball at St. John’s University and he was selected by the Bulls with the 16th overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft.

“When I was a 19-year-old father, whew. I was a single pimp! I was wild,” said the unbalanced hoopster who infamously once attended a practice with the Indiana Pacers donning only a bath robe. “A lot of marijuana and alcohol. I still party and have fun, but not like I used to. I used to drink every night and party every night.”

Former two-time WBO welterweight titlist Paul “The Punisher” Williams earned a majority decision victory over WBC Super Welterweight champion Sergio Martinez in a nontitle middleweight bout at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City Saturday night.

Williams (38-1, 27 KOs), considered by many analysts to be the most “avoided fighter in the world,” initially brawled with Martinez (44-2-2, 24 KOs) and both southpaws surprisingly experienced knockdowns before the opening round concluded.

As the contest progressed, Williams, 28, suffered a cut over his left eye during the fourth round as the result of an unintentional head butt from Martinez, 34.

Despite the wound, Williams was ultimately credited with throwing a staggering 631 power punches and he was declared the winner on two of the three judge’s scorecards.

Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden fractured his left kneecap during a game against the Houston Rockets Saturday night at the Rose Garden.

Oden, 21, the first overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Trail Blazers, underwent surgery on his left patella the following day and he will be shelved for the remainder of the 2009-2010 campaign.

“I’m obviously disappointed having worked so hard to get where I was. This is a setback but I’ll be back. It’s in God’s hands now,” said Oden, who was averaging 11.7 points and 8.8 rebounds this season as a starter.

“I want to thank the fans, my teammates and everyone in the Blazers family for all of their good thoughts.”

Oden, an affable seven-foot giant who is likable and easy to support as a fan, apologized to his teammates once he received his diagnosis.

NBA Commissioner David Stern predicted last week that a woman will play in the league within the next decade.

“I don’t want to get into all kinds of arguments with players and coaches about the likelihood,” Stern told Sports Illustrated. “But I really think it’s a good possibility.”

Stern, 67, who became the Commissioner in 1984, said he realizes that many people are skeptical that women could compete physically with men.

However, Stern offered the reasoning behind his belief and he cited examples of other female athletes who have flourished performing athletically versus men.

“If you look at world records, let’s say track and field, you’ll see how the women have moved up to what would have been records several decades ago for men,” said Stern, a graduate of Columbia Law School in 1966. “Watch the WNBA and you see the shooting percentages, the passing and the like. Basketball is a five-person game and you have zones and you can do a variety of other things.”

Ukrainian WBC heavyweight champion Vitali “Dr. Iron Fist” Klitschko will defend his crown against undefeated challenger Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson this Saturday at the PostFinance-Arena in Bern, Switzerland.

Klitschko (38-2, 37 KOs), the owner of the highest knockout percentage (92.5%) of any heavyweight boxing champion ever, badly bludgeoned Chris Arreola (28-1, 24 KOs) this past September in Los Angeles before the product of Riverside’s corner stopped the fight after the conclusion of the 10th round.

When the active Klitschko, 38, scraps Johnson (22-0-1, 9 KOs) this weekend, it will be the third time he has fought in this calendar year alone.

“I feel top fit, had super preparations in Los Angeles and really enjoyed the fight against Arreola,” said Klitschko, the first professional boxing world champion to hold a PH. D.

Former unified world lightweight champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz will fight a rematch against past IBF junior welterweight titlist Paulie “the Magic Man” Malignaggi Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In their bloody initial encounter in August, Malignaggi (26-3, 5KOs) lost a very controversial decision to Diaz (35-2, 17 KOs) in the “Baby Bull’s hometown of Houston.

“Boxing is full of shit,” Malignaggi, 28, said to Max Kellerman during the post-fight interview.

Malignaggi, a native of Brooklyn who began boxing at the age of 16 in that borough of New York City’s legendary Gleason's Gym, also stated that he is disgusted with the fight game and the only reason that he will continue to box is to earn an income.

WBC world heavyweight champion Vitali “Dr. Iron Fist” Klitschko easily defeated Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson by a unanimous decision Saturday afternoon at the PostFinance Arena in Bern, Switzerland.

“I would have preferred a knockout but I’m happy because I won all 12 rounds,” said Klitschko, 38, a Ukrainian who owns the highest knockout percentage of any heavyweight boxing champion ever. “He’s not easy to hit.”

After taking a four-year hiatus from boxing to recover from injuries, Klitschko (39-2, 37 KOs) has been extremely active and this weekend marked his fourth fight since he returned to the ring in October 2008.

“When I first met Vitali I told him, ‘You won’t knock me out.’ It wasn’t a hard fight,” said Johnson, 30, a native of Asbury Park, New Jersey. “There are things we need to work on and we’re going to go home to the gym and polish them up.”

Former IBF junior welterweight champion Paul “the Magic Man” Malignaggi defeated past unified WBA, WBO and IBF world lightweight titlist Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz by unanimous decision in their rematch Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KOs), a Brooklyn native who was awarded Ring Magazine’s comeback of the year in 2007, dominated Diaz (34-2, 17 KOs) and all three judges declared him victorious by the identical score of 116-111.

In their initial encounter this past summer at the Toyota Center in Diaz’s hometown of Houston, Texas, the “Baby Bull” won a highly-controversial unanimous decision over Malignaggi.

Malignaggi, 29, justifiably claimed that the three judges were biased and he contended that their scoring blatantly favored Diaz, 26, strictly because he hails from “Space City.”

There is a widespread belief that mixed martial arts (MMA) have put the sport of boxing on the ropes and near extinction.

The preeminent U.S.-based MMA promotion is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

When the UFC was initially established in 1993, it was essentially an utter freak show that was littered with gratuitous violence inside of a cage that appeared almost medieval.

The UFC and its savage brutality eventually caught the attention of authorities and lawmakers who were absolutely horrified when they witnessed one of the promotions bloody spectacles.

In particular, Arizona Senator John McCain viewed footage of one of UFC’s events and he notoriously labeled the competition “human cockfighting.”

New England Patriots players and coaches expressed their support for embattled wide receiver Randy Moss this week after he played like a pathetic moose-knuckle in their 20-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers last Sunday in Foxboro.

Moss, 32, a four-time All-Pro selection and six-time Pro Bowler, amassed one measly reception for 16 yards in a performance that reeked of unprofessionalism.

Moss’ effort was so blatantly poor that members of the porous 5-8 Panthers chided his lack of exertion on the gridiron.

“We knew he (Moss) was going to shut it down,” Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble told the Boston Globe. “He’d just give up a lot, slow down, he’s not going deep, not trying to run a route. You can tell by his body language.”

The Ring Magazine, WBC and WBO middleweight champion Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik will fight Miguel Espino Saturday night at the Beeghly Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs) was originally scheduled to defend his titles versus Paul “The Punisher” Williams (38-1, 27 KOs). Unfortunately, a stubborn staph infection in Pavlik’s left hand caused him to twice postpone his slated bouts with Williams.

Williams, 28, a southpaw often considered the most “avoided fighter in the world,” grew frustrated with Pavlik’s cancellations and he instead fought Sergio Gabriel Martinez (44-2-2, 24 KOs) on December 5.

In a rugged and exciting battle, Williams was awarded a narrow majority decision victory over Martinez, 34. Pavlik intended to rest for the remainder of this year with hope that his bummed paw that underwent two major surgeries would entirely heal.

Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik successfully defended his WBC, WBO and The Ring middleweight titles versus Miguel Espino with a fifth round TKO Saturday night at the Beeghly Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Pavlik (36-1, 32 KOs) decided to fight Espino (20-3-1, 8 KOs) after he was twice forced to postpone matchups against former two-time WBO welterweight champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams (38-1, 27 KOs) because of a stubborn staph infection on his left hand.

“I’m definitely back,” said Pavlik, 27, whose only loss as a professional came at the hands of the legendary Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs).

Despite the fact that his hand required two major surgeries, Pavlik was harshly criticized for his ten-month layoff from the ring.

With Christmas mere days away, Santa Claus is obviously preparing for his annual sleigh voyage around the globe.

In honor of the lovable and portly Kris Kringle, I decided to rank the three plumpest boxers who found the most success in the ring over the past 25 years.

Without further adieu, below are my nominations.

1)      “Big” George Foreman- Foreman (76-5, 68 KOs) was a physical specimen as a youngster when he won a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

Foreman maintained his muscular physique after his triumph in “The City of Palaces” and he decided to turn professional.

In January 1973, Foreman brutalized a previously unbeaten Joe Frazier by second round TKO to capture the WBC and WBA heavyweight titles.

The New York Jets lost an utter heartbreaker to the Atlanta Falcons 10-7 Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

“We’re obviously out of the playoffs, and that’s unfortunate,” Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan incorrectly stated to the New York Daily News after the game in frustration.

The 7-7 Jets did virtually everything in their power to ensure that the 7-7 Falcons would steal the game and vacate the swamps of Jersey with a victory.

Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez threw three costly interceptions and Gang Green’s kicking game banged the pooch on three separate field goal attempts as well.

“It’s tough to swallow,” said Sanchez, 23, who has tossed only 12 touchdown passes, in contrast to 20 interceptions, for 2,275 yards to date. “It’s never good to play that poorly. We played well in spurts and then we’d turn the ball over.”

Reprehensible former college basketball coach “The General” Robert Montgomery Knight attended a fundraiser for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame last week and he seized the event to chastise current University of Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari.

Knight, 69, who captured three NCAA Division I men’s college basketball championships at Indiana University and has recorded more victories than any coach in history, urged the governing body’s administration to more closely monitor players academic marks who are competing in postseason games.

“We’ve gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that’s why I’m glad I’m not coaching,” said Knight, who was fired by the Hoosiers in 2000 for committing a litany of deplorable actions both on and off of the court.

WBO World Welterweight champion and IBO and Ring Magazine Light Welterweight titlist Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao was scheduled to fight undefeated "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on March 13 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Predictably, because boxing has historically relished disappointing its fans, the glamorous matchup is now in jeopardy because Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) has refused to comply with Mayweather's request to undergo Olympic style drug tests both before and after the fight.

"Let's be very clear on the real issues we differ on. It's not about being tested," Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum claimed. "Manny is on board with that since it's such a major concern of Floyd Mayweather Jr. It's about who does the testing and the scheduling of the procedures."

Spent NABO and IBC light heavyweight champion Roy Jones, Jr. and his delusional promotion company asked an Australian boxing commission this week to annul his first round TKO loss to IBO cruiserweight titlist Danny Green.

Jones’ dishonorable camp requested that Green (28-3, 25 KOs) be retrospectively disqualified because they now claim that “The Green Machine” had an excessive amount of wrapping tape and bandages on his hands during their fight in Sydney earlier this month.

“I’d rather lose fair than win cheating,” said Jones, 40, who was named “Fighter of the Decade” for the 1990’s by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Prior to their December 3 matchup, Green predicted that he would quickly dispose of the antiquated Jones (54-6, 40 KOs) and he did so after only 122 seconds of boxing.

The Chicago Bears defeated the struggling Minnesota Vikings 36-30 in overtime Monday night at Soldier Field.

Much-maligned Bears quarterback Jay Cutler tossed a 39-yard touchdown pass to Devin Aromashodu to secure the victory.

“It’s good for the team, it’s good for the morale of going out there and putting up points and answering the bell, especially in the fourth quarter and overtime when you have to do it,” said Cutler, 26, who went 20 of 35 for 273 yards and four touchdowns.

After a scorching start to their season, the Vikings lost for the third time in four games and their record fell to 11-4.

On the flipside, Chicago’s win improved their disappointing mark to 6-9.

Many Chicagoans had high-hopes for the Bears entering the 2009 campaign after they acquired Cutler in an April trade with the Denver Broncos.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White recently announced that his organization will venture to Boston for a card that is tentatively scheduled for August 28 at the TD Garden.

White, who as a young adult lived in South Boston and worked as a bouncer at the famed Irish pub “Black Rose” near Quincy Market, made his announcement just weeks after Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed a bill into law sanctioning mixed martial arts.

“I’m going to bring the fight game back to Boston,” said White, 40, an amateur pugilist who once established a boxing program for inner-city youth at McDonough Gym in Southie. “I’m going to bring back the excitement of big fights, the energy of it.”

White may have never abandoned his boxing gym had he not been threatened with extortion by Whitey Bulger before the Irish gangster went on the lam in 1995.

The New York Jets defeated the Indianapolis Colts 29-15 Sunday night at Lucas Oil Stadium to incredibly regain control of their own playoff fate.

Many critics have placed an asterisk next to the Jets (8-7) upset victory because Colts (14-1) Head Coach Jim Caldwell removed quarterback Peyton Manning from the game with approximately six minutes remaining in the third quarter.

When Manning was relieved from action, the Jets were narrowly behind 15-10.

After Manning was benched, the Jets defense thoroughly dominated and Gang Green ultimately outscored the Colts 26-3 after the conclusion of halftime.

It is impossible to say with any certainty whether or not the Jets would have emerged victorious had Manning not been replaced by rookie signal-caller Curtis Painter.

Unscrewed former heavyweight champion Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield will challenge WBF titlist Francois “White Buffalo” Botha for his worthless crown January 16 at Kampala’s Nambole Stadium in Uganda.

“I am very much looking forward to going to Uganda and I expect a tough fight against Francois Botha,” said Holyfield, 47, the only boxer to ever win the heavyweight championship on four separate occasions. “I am going to win and I will cherish the WBF world title.”

Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs), also a former cruiserweight champ, has not entered the ring and put his life in jeopardy since he was defeated by the gigantic Nikolai Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs) by a controversial majority decision last December.
