Quarterback Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators demolished the previously unbeaten Cincinnati Bearcats 51-24 Friday night in the 76th Sugar Bowl played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

Tebow, 22, the 2007 Heisman Trophy Award winner who concluded his career as the all-time NCAA leader in total touchdowns with 145, completed 31 out of 35 passes for an astounding 482 yards and three scoring strikes.

“It was incredible,” said Tebow, whose 533 yards of total offense were the most in BCS history. “Just a great game. It was exactly how you want to go out with these seniors and these coaches in your last game and your last time together. It just really doesn’t get any better than this.”

Tebow’s spectacular performance against the Bearcats (12-1) bolstered the notion that he is the greatest collegiate football player ever.

Former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto said Tuesday that Manny Pacquiao’s refusal to undergo Olympic-style random blood-testing for a potential March 13 fight versus Floyd Mayweather, Jr. “raises questions.”

“I am in complete awe with Manny’s reaction to this matter,” said Cotto, 29, who lost his crown to Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) by a 12th round TKO this past November.

“He has always been a great athlete and gentleman. Why in the world would he require restrictions or conditions for the tests? It is a golden opportunity for him to dispel all world-wide rumors surrounding his figure and use of enhancement drugs. His refusal to commit to the tests without conditions raises questions.”

Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) is a valiant warrior in the ring and his only two losses as a professional now seem to be illegitimate.

Former heavyweight titleholder Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs was suspended for 90 days by the New York State Athletic Commission last week once it was revealed that he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs after he knocked out Marcus McGee in the first round of his comeback fight December 3.

Briggs (48-5-1, 42 KOs), who had previously been retired from the sport of boxing for nearly three years, was considered one of the heavyweight divisions rising stars before his career fizzled in the late-1990’s.

Briggs’ manager, Ivaylo Gotzev, claimed in an interview with ESPN.com that the product of Brownsville, Brooklyn likely tested positive for an unrevealed banned substance because of medication he takes to alleviate his asthma.

The revived Houston Texans defeated the New England Patriots 34-27 Sunday in Reliant Stadium.

The Patriots (10-6) loss to the Texans (9-7) in the regular season finale will ultimately prove to be meaningless.

However, the severe injury that Pro Bowl wide receiver Wes Welker suffered this weekend will be a substantial obstacle for the Patriots to overcome.

Welker, 28, a two-time second-team All-Pro selection who is the only player in NFL history to record at least 110 receptions in three consecutive seasons, tore both the anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee after he caught a pass from quarterback Tom Brady in the first quarter.

Welker is out indefinitely and his status for the 2010 season is currently in jeopardy as well.

The Fighter, a film starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale that chronicles the lives of former professional boxers “Irish” Micky Ward and his older brother Dickie Eklund, is scheduled to premiere in theaters within the coming months.

Wahlberg, born in the gritty Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, will portray Ward and Bale will playact Eklund.

Ward (38-13, 27 KOs), a retired junior middleweight pugilist from Lowell, Mass., is one of the more popular fighters in recent memory because of his ability to absorb vicious punishment while he awaited for his opportunity to clobber his opponent.

“Irish” Micky, 44, the winner of three New England Golden Gloves titles as an amateur, began his professional career with an unblemished mark of 14-0.

The prospective Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao versus “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather bout slated for March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas has been canceled because the two disgraceful camps couldn’t agree to terms over drastic drug testing measures.

After a long mediation session, representatives for both Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions were reportedly confident that they had brokered an agreement that would have enabled the potentially richest fight in boxing history to occur.

Virtually every point of contention that placed the glamorous matchup in peril had been acceptably dealt with by both sides.

Unfortunately, Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) refused to budge on his unprecedented insistence that both Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) and himself undergo Olympic-style drug testing to ensure a clean contest.

WBO world welterweight champion Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao will defend his crown versus former IBF welterweight titlist “The Hitter” Joshua Clottey on March 13 in a bout tentatively slated to occur at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

“We’re on the same page,” said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum regarding the negotiations he has had with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) was initially scheduled to fight “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) on the identical date.

Unfortunately, the two childish camps were ridiculously unable to agree to terms on a matchup that was expected to pay both prizefighters’ in excess of $30 million.

So, after the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown disintegrated, Arum quickly arranged a fight for his client versus Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs).

WBA world heavyweight champion David “The Hayemaker” Haye will defend his crown against former two-time WBA heavyweight titlist John “The Quiet Man” Ruiz this April at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Haye (23-1, 21 KOs), only the fifth British pugilist in history to win a piece of the heavyweight championship, held the WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring Magazine cruiserweight titles before he vacated them to instead compete in boxing's glamour division.

Haye captured the WBA crown when he defeated Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs) by a close majority decision last November at the Nuremberg Arena in Germany.

Although heavily-muscled, Haye is relatively diminutive in stature compared to most other heavyweights in the division.

After New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez helped lead his team to a 24-14 Wild Card victory over the Bengals in Cincinnati Saturday, the precocious signal-caller found time to tweak his former college coach at the University of Southern California (USC).

Sanchez, 23, a three-time Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week winner, was publicly chastised by recently resigned Trojans Head Coach Pete Carroll last January after he declared himself eligible for the draft with a year of collegiate eligibility remaining.

“The facts are so strong against this decision,” said Carroll, 58, of Sanchez who went 12-1 and was awarded with the 2009 Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player in his only season as the Trojans starter.

“After analyzing all the information, the truth is there – he should’ve stayed for another year.”

Former WBA welterweight and IBF light welterweight champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton announced Wednesday that he plans to likely fight one more time before he officially retires from the sport of boxing.

Hatton (45-2, 32 KOs) last fought in May when he lost his IBO light welterweight and Ring Magazine junior welterweight titles to Manny Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) by a vicious second round knockout in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“As a fighter, you don’t want your last fight to be like that,” said Hatton, 31, the 2005 Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year. “I want to finish at the top and I know my last training camp could have been better, so those are the reasons I’m giving it one more go.

Hatton won the IBF and IBO light welterweight crowns when he defeated Juan “Iron Twin” Urango (22-2-1, 17 KOs) by unanimous decision in January 2007.

The Boise State Broncos unjustifiably finished the 2009-2010 football season ranked number four in The Associated Press Top-25 Poll.

The Broncos (14-0) cemented their asinine fourth-place ranking after they defeated the Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs (12-1) 17-10 in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 4.

Voters ultimately awarded the national championship to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide (14-0) in lieu of their 37-21 victory over the Texas Longhorns (13-1) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Despite the fact that they both previously lost to Alabama, Texas (13-1) and the University of Florida Gators (13-1) concluded the year ranked ahead of the Broncos in the polls.

“I’ve said this all along,” claimed Broncos Head Coach Chris Peterson, 45, who is 49-4 since he took over in Boise in 2006. “Rankings don’t mean much to us.”

WBC welterweight champion Andre “The Beast” Berto was devastated when he heard Tuesday’s tragic news that Haiti had been struck by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake.

Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive estimated that the country’s most severe earthquake in over 200 years would likely leave “more than one hundred thousand dead.”

Berto (26-0, 19 KOs), a two-time National Golden Gloves champion who won 22 state titles in Florida, was born in Miami.

Nevertheless, as a proud Haitian-American, Berto represented Haiti at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Berto, who is scheduled to defend his crown versus “Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-5-1, 39 KOs) on January 30, said his uncle’s home collapsed in the quake and he has been unable to contact his sister or niece since the disaster occurred.

Former undisputed middleweight champion Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor formally withdrew from the Super Six World Boxing Classic on Tuesday due to concerns regarding his health.

“I’m going to take some time off from the sport of boxing,” said Taylor, 31, who lost four of his last five fights, including three by way of violent knockout. “It’s important that I give my body and mind some much-needed rest, because I have been boxing for nearly 20 years. I plan on keeping myself in shape and making a return to the sport sometime in the future.”

Taylor (28-4-1, 17 KOs), the winner of the Bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, rose to fame when he defeated the legendary Bernard Hopkins (50-5-1-1, 32 KOs) by split decision to capture the middleweight crown in July 2005 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Nearly two decades after their first matchup, Roy Jones, Jr. and Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins signed contracts Wednesday to battle in a light heavyweight contest April 17 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The rematch was tentatively agreed to by both parties last autumn.

However, the fight was temporarily unhinged when Jones (54-6, 40 KOs) was knocked onto Queer Street by Danny Green (28-3, 25 KOs) in the first round in “The Green Machine’s” native land of Australia on December 2.

“We worked very hard to keep this fight alive and we got it signed Wednesday,” said John Wirt, the CEO of Square Ring, Jones’ promotional company.

“We’re ecstatic that the fight was made and we’re looking forward to a great event. There’s been a long-standing rivalry between two of the preeminent boxers of our generation. This fight will establish once and for all who is the better fighter between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. This is the fight Roy always wanted.”

Former two-time WBA world heavyweight champion John “The Quiet Man” Ruiz signed with Golden Boy Promotions last week.

Ruiz (44-8-1-1, 30 KOs), a native of Methuen, Massachusetts, is scheduled to fight current WBA world heavyweight champion David “The Hayemaker” Haye (23-1, 21 KOs) for his title on April 3 at Wembley Stadium in London.

In an interesting slant, Golden Boy also promotes Haye.

“I’m excited to become a member of the Golden Boy Promotions family and know that I have a great future ahead of me. I’m going to continue to make history and break records one fight at a time, starting with David Haye this spring,” said Ruiz, 38, who became the first Hispanic heavyweight titleholder when he defeated Evander Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 KOs) by unanimous decision to capture the WBA crown in March 2001.

The trainer of current UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar said last week that his fighter is “definitely coming back” to scrap in the octagon.

“Brock Lesnar is definitely coming back to fight,” Lesnar’s head trainer Greg Nelson stated in an interview with ESPN.com’s MMA Live. “He’s just kind of coming up slowly, training, trying to get his body ready and being smart with his recovery.”

Lesnar (4-1), a former three-time WWE champion who played for the Minnesota Vikings during the preseason in 2004, has not fought since he successfully defended his title versus Frank Mir (13-4) by TKO (strikes) last July in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Former WBC welterweight champion “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather and current WBC welterweight super titlist “Sugar” Shane Mosley are reportedly in negotiations to fight May 1 or May 8.

Mosley was scheduled to battle Andre “The Beast” Berto on January 30.

Sadly, Berto (26-0, 19 KOs), a proud Haitian-American who represented Haiti at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, was forced to cancel his matchup with Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) after the Caribbean country was leveled by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake last week.

Cleveland Browns Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown said this week that he hopes that Cavaliers basketball icon Lebron James remains in “The Forest City” after this season.

James, 25, the 2009 NBA Most Valuable Player who was born and raised near Cleveland in Akron, Ohio, will be a free agent this summer and many analysts have speculated that the “Chosen One” may opt to sign a long-term contract with an organization located in a larger market.

“Looking at the fact that this is a business, I put that first,” said Brown, 73, a three-time NFL MVP and eight-time First-Team All-Pro selection during his nine-year career with the Browns.

“But having said that, I would love to see him be here. I think it’s a terrific marriage. He does so much for this city and I think that he has an owner (Dan Gilbert) that tries to do everything he can. When you have an owner who is trying to do the best he can do and a player, it’s a terrific set of circumstances. But the business is the business.”

The improbable New York Jets will play the dominant Indianapolis Colts Sunday in the AFC Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana.

In order to get to this point, the Jets (11-7) defeated the Chargers 17-14 in San Diego and the Colts (15-2) trumped the Baltimore Ravens 20-3 at home in their respective Divisional Round matchups.

The Jets currently stand one victory away from making their first appearance in the Super Bowl since 1969.

In their last championship season 41 years ago, the Jets were considered colossal underdogs in Super Bowl III versus the Baltimore Colts.

Prior to the epic contest, brash Jets quarterback Willie Joe Namath boldly proclaimed, “We’re gonna win this game. I guarantee you.”

Disgraced former WBA, IBF and WBO welterweight champion Antonio “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito is tentatively scheduled to fight Carson Jones on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao versus Joshua Clottey bout on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

In order for Margarito (37-6, 27 KOs) to be eligible to fight, he needs to first be licensed to box by Texas regulators.

Margarito, 31, had his boxing license justifiably revoked by the California State Athletic Commission for “at least a year” last February after it was confirmed that he attempted to scrap current WBA welterweight super champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) with a plaster-like substance inside of his hand wraps.

Fortunately, Margarito was caught and proven to be a cowardly charlatan by officials at the Staples Center in Los Angeles before the match began and he had the opportunity to seriously injure Mosley with his cement fists.

WBA world light-welterweight champion Amir Khan is tentatively scheduled to defend his crown against Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on April 17.

IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine titlist Wladimir “Dr. Steelhammer” Klitschko will defend his crowns versus Philadelphian Eddie Chambers March 20 at the Esprit Arena in Duesseldorf, Germany.

Klitschko (53-2, 47 KOs), who won a gold medal for Ukraine as a super heavyweight at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, lauded Chambers (35-1, 18 KOs) abilities in the ring and stated that the 27-year-old is currently the best U.S. heavyweight contender.

“Chambers is not number one in the world rankings for nothing,” said Klitschko, 33.

Chambers was provided the opportunity to fight Klitschko after he defeated Alexander Dimitrenko (29-1, 19KOs) by unanimous decision on July 4 in a WBO title eliminator bout.

The New York Jets Super Bowl aspirations were shredded by the Indianapolis Colts 30-17 Sunday in the AFC Championship Game at Lucas Oil Field in Indiana.

Unfortunately for fans of Gang Green, the Jets magical postseason flight violently crashed in the decisive second half of the contest.

Golden Boy Promotions’ founder Oscar De La Hoya said earlier this week that he soon expects to have a signed agreement for undefeated “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr. to fight WBA welterweight super champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley in May.

Former junior welterweight champion Roger “Black Mamba” Mayweather pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony accusations that he attacked a female boxer he once trained last August.

Mayweather, 48, who held two major world titles in two different weight classes, is scheduled to go on trial June 1 to face charges of coercion, battery-strangulation and battery causing substantial bodily harm.

Mayweather (59-13, 35 KOs) allegedly committed the violent assault against Melissa St. Vil at an apartment he owned in Las Vegas.

Vil, 26, testified January 15 that Mayweather punched her several times in the ribs before he maliciously choked her to the brink of unconsciousness.

According to official police reports, the batty uncle and trainer of boxing superstar “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather strangled Vil with such vicious force that she coughed-up blood when authorities arrived at the crime scene and intervened.
