ESPN's Joe Morgan: The Little Red Machine -- That Won't Stop Talking posted on 05/01/2008
The Mouth That Roars...and Bores!

The good thing about Joe Morgan announcing baseball games on ESPN is that he knows the game.  The bad thing about Joe Morgan announcing baseball games on ESPN is that he will tell you how much he knows again and again, over and over – until views are ready to say: Over and out!

One the greatest second basemen ever and a major player on the Cincinnati Reds “Big Red Machine,” Joe never misses an opportunity to beat a play into submission.  And if that isn’t enough he’ll wrestle it to the ground, cuff it and put a knee in its back until it screams “Uncle!”

A rundown that occurred in the second inning is still on Joe’s radar in the ninth and, as a result, it remains on the radar of viewers.  “OK, Joe, we heard you the first eight times…no need to go over the play – again!”

New York Giants: Anxious for more Eli? posted on 05/01/2008

Hard to believe, but here we sit: New York Giants fans actually anxious to see Eli Manning back in action.  Where did it all go so wrong?  Where is the guy who threw four picks and was eight yards shy of having all four returned for TDs against Minnesota?

From the get-go, I was against drafting him.  Archie Manning’s record as a starter was 35-101-3 (26.3%), the worst in NFL history among QBs with at least 100 starts.  So along came all-world Peyton, but what were the chances, I thought on draft day, that one family would have two superstars?  Were we looking at Hank and Tommy Aaron?

To make a long story short, Eli did nothing to gain my trust in his early years – or the early part of this season, for that matter. Other than running a solid two-minute drill, he was a deer in the headlights.  Then, the New York Giants played New England, Eli outplayed Tom Brady, and it was game-on.

Bye-bye Barry Bonds posted on 05/01/2008

Let me see if I have this right:  Barry Bonds learns early on as the skilled but spoiled brat son of a superstar that he can pretty much make his own rules.  He follows this path through high school and college to the extent that when his college coach tosses him from the team, then reconsiders, his teammates vote to not bring him back.

This behavior continues in the big leagues as Barry drives away San Francisco Giants teammates in droves -- some leaving only after slugging the slugger.  He treats everyone like crap, bullies media and anyone else who might have the audacity to question him, then decides to build on this foundation of humanity by allegedly taking an alleged performance enhancer.

What a coincidence that Barry was allegedly using the same steroid blocking substances made by the same company linked to other alleged cheaters – many of whom have been banned, are in prison or on the way.
