Posada's shoulder holding up nicely for the Yankees

Dateline: last season. New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada injures his shoulder. He ends up needing season-ending surgery leading to a Pudge Rodriguez summer rental. Fast forward to this season. There is no doubt his shoulder's gotten better. It just seems like every time I turn on the Yankee game on TV, some baserunner is trying to steal 2nd and the throw from Jorge is...........IN TIME! He's caught a couple stealing in last week's series against the Washington Nationals. I remember him catching somebody stealing against the Marlins. I believe it was Hanley Ramirez and if I remember correctly Ramirez was perfect so far this season until he got caught by Posada. Cool, huh? There is no doubt that Jorgie is back to form before the injury. Throw in a couple of home runs here and there and you've got yourself one of the most exciting Yankee players to watch. I love it! Every time he throws the ball to second and catches a baserunner stealing, it shuts the mouths of all those skeptics out there who think he's coming off shoulder surgery and he's an easy stolen base. It shuts the mouths of all those skeptics out there that think he's done. It shuts the mouths of all those skeptics out there that think the Yanks should have kept Pudge. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Ivan Rodriguez. Congrats Pudge on beating Carlton Fisk for most appearances as a catcher. I have a lot of respect for him. He's just too clutch against the teams I root for and a straight-up dud when he plays on teams I root for. This frustrates me just a little bit. Let Pudge be a journeyman going from team to team making history. I'll just stick with Jorgie, the best catcher in baseball as a staple on the New York Yankees.

Highlights Catalog

Got kids? Get them Highlights magazine. I remember going to the dentist when I was a kid. Highlights magazine was right there in the waiting area. I loved it. I would read it cover to cover. I would highly recommend it for your kids. Very educational.

  1. He has thrown out 50% of the runners, and he is the captain of the team, but he and his pitchers can't seem to get in a groove. Jorge has caught World Series games. He has been a mainstay for years, but you must admit that it is time to look for the next Setember call-up cashier. We need to get that good Yankee feeling back.

  2. I agree with you, but only to certain extent. 1) Posada is not the Yankees captain. Derek Jeter is. Just because a catcher has pretty much the same duty as the manager on the field, doesn’t necessarily make him the captain. Jeter has way more charisma than Posada. 2) The starting rotation is more to blame than Posada. Posada calls pitches and they keep waving him off. Case in point: Joba Chamberlain’s performance against the Mets. He waved off Jorgie so many times, that it had the Mets broadcasters on SNY saying that this is ridiculous, that there are no midges here, and that they hadn’t seen anything like that since Little League. Do I even need to go into Chien-Ming Wang? That’s another blog entry altogether! 3) Posada is passing the torch to Francisco Cervelli. The Yankee brass see this guy as the future and Jorgie’s instilling that World Series experience into him. Guess you could say that September call up is already here. Sometimes I think it’s mind boggling for to them to choose Cervelli over Kevin Cash. Cash was Jason Varitek’s backup when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2007, but hey, when Frankie’s played he’s been getting keys hits. 4) The Yankees clubhouse needs to get loose again like they did in May. I believe there’s frustration right now because there’s no walk-off hero face for A.J. Burnett to put a whipped cream pie into. There’s no player of the game for them to award that toy WWE championship belt to. This is because with the exception of Mark Texiera and Robinson Cano, the offense has been flat including Jorgie. Looks like Mariano Rivera’s been having a field day as presiding judge over that Kangaroo Court!
