While I've grown up a Yankees fan for all of my life, there was an unfortunate stretch of time where I lived a little too close in proximity to Red Sox Nation. During my childhood in New England, I received a lot of flack for being a Yankees fan, most of which was aimed at the fact that the yankees are a supposed "money team" stealing quality players from other teams with their rich bank roll...
What a load of crap. I'm so sick of this argument, it makes me sick. I don't deny the fact that the yankees have the highest payroll in the league. That is an undisputed truth. But do you know who has the second highest payroll in the league? Ummm...that would be the red sox. So don't pretend like your precious runner-ups are any better, or more genuine than the evil empire. At least the yankees are upfront about things. Steinbrenner acknowleges the yankees as a business venture more than anything else. The players (with the exception of Derek Jeter) are permanently attached to a revolving door. If you don't perform, then get out! The red sox desperately cling to this idea of david and goliath, garnering sympathy from baseball fans around the world. The poor red sox haven't been right since the evil yankees bought the rights to Babe Ruth. You know what the truth is...Ruth understood that it was time to jump ship. The yankees were the team of the future, the red sox were just a bunch of hacks with a stupid name.
Furthermore, I'm tired of Boston finally thinking they have the one up on us now. Yes, it is true that they have won two world series since the yankees have won their last. But lets look at the overall tally, shall we? The yankees have won 26 total world series titles. That accounts for nearly a quarter of baseball's entire history as a professional national sport. How many does Boston have? Oh yeah, 7. 5 of which came before the sale of Babe Ruth. This isn't a rivalry, this is a massacre. There is no question who the best team in baseball history is. Shape up, red sox, you have a whole lot of winning to do before this argument holds any water.
