Rockets Aren't Made To Be Thrown Under Buses

Nevermind the fact that Senator George Mitchell’s
report named absolutely zero Boston Red Sox players.
Nevermind the fact that Roger Clemens has emphatically
offered to take a polygraph test to attest to the fact
he has never taken performance enhancing drugs.
Nevermind the fact that the American League’s all-time
strikeout king is willing to go to whichever lengths
necessary to disprove his accusatory former trainer,
Brian McNamee. I guess the question is “Does baseball
even want Roger Clemens to enter the hall of fame?” I
mean after all, Dan Duquette threw Roger under the bus
after the 1996 season, despite 192 major league wins,
3 Cy Young Awards, 2 record-setting 20K games, and,
lest we forget, a league MVP. That’s enough reason to
say someone’s in the twilight of their career,
wouldn’t you agree? Would somebody in the twilight of
their career win a Cy Young award the following two
seasons (not to mention pitching’s triple crown on the
second season)? Did I neglect to mention the world
championships in the two seasons following those? How
about the record 6th Cy Young and AL pennant the
following year? Assuming the resume needs any further
embellishment, I’ll just add a 7th Cy Young and two
more league pennants (2003 Yankees, 2005 Astros). So,
why don’t we all just pull a Dan Duquette and doubt
the Rocket? Maybe he’ll win another 162 games, 4 Cy
Young awards
, 5 penants, and 2 World Series.
