Knicks Need Some D: Avery To The Rescue posted on 05/06/2008

With rumors abound regarding who will be the next head coach of the New York Knicks, the right choice has to be Avery Johnson.  We need defense!!  The quickest way to improve a team and make games competitive is to have some sort of defense.  Guys that play hard, guys that care, guys that hustle.  And Avery is a hustler.

The man who once broke the hearts of Knick fans everywhere with a baseline jumper in the closing seconds of the 1999 NBA Finals may now be the man who can help turn this around, that is of course, if he feels like taking on this monster task of re-building one of the worst franchises in pro sports.

Johnson is a match for the Knicks because they are polar opposites.  Avery is a born leader who wins over 70% of his games, while the Knicks are gutless whimps who lose over 70% of their games.  While there are other candidates out there like Mark Jackson and Mike D'Antoni, none are more suited for the job than Johnson, a defensive minded coach who got a bad rap with the soft Maverick teams led by the softest MVP of all time, Dirk Nowitzki.

No Skills Required: Anyone Can Be a Sportscaster posted on 05/01/2008

If you have been watching sports for any amount of time, you know exactly what I am talking about.  There is no skill or special requirement for being a sportscaster, case in point, Michael Kay.  Yankee fans loath the sight of this long-headed clown who must have gotten extensive playing time in little league, not by virtue of having actual baseball talent, but by constantly whinning to the little league baseball coach.  He is a master of the obvious, stating throughout the game that the base-runners will go on a 3-2 count with two outs.  You may think that perhaps he is talking to the viewers that are new to baseball, but then again, if the viewers were new to baseball, they wouldn't be watching this game, they would be watching an instructional video.  To make a long story short, Kay is essentially talking to an audience that is not there.

The Jets Draft: A Pleasant Surprise posted on 04/29/2008
Fear not Jets fans, your team did NOT screw up in this year's installment of the NFL draft.

Mulligans for everyone!!

By virtue of sheer luck, the J-E-T-S did not even have a chance to screw up their first pick in the draft as QB Matt Ryan and RB Darren McFadden were no longer availabe. Ryan would not have been the right choice since this Jet team has many more holes to fill before they can start worrying about a franchise QB. Ryan coming to NY would have resulted in a totally un-fair situation for the kid, similar to when Cleveland brought in Tim Couch. But hey, we can't blame Cleveland for that. After all, surrounding a great young QB with washed up second stringers seemed like a good idea at the time.

As for McFadden, the flashy halfback from Arkansas, this guy is nothing more than a third down back. Third down backs do have value, but not at the top-ten portion of the draft. Think of it this way, if he were such a can't miss prospect, how come his backup Felix Jones was a first round pick too? Last time I checked, a stud HB doesn't split that many carries with his back-up.
