San Jose.  Mike also tasted bitter misfortune, after being whistled for a questionable hit on Alex Kovalev in the waning seconds of regulation in Game 2; Kovalev scored on the ensuing Powerplay and set up the Overtime winner.  Overall, Mike gets the edge for leading his team instead of merely adding depth.

  “Potential” has always been the buzz word swarming around the 14 year career of Alexei Kovalev.  After the New York Rangers made him the first Russian player selected in the draft’s opening round, his second season culminated with a dramatic Stanley Cup victory over fellow countryman Pavel Bure.  Kovalev’s play elevated in each successive round of the 1994 Stanley Cup run and fans could only wonder where the wunderkind’s ceiling was.

Soup Nazi Award:  Geoffrey Lupul deprives NBC and many a fingertip-padding executive, snatching away their Crosby vs. Ovechkin dream matchup in the 2nd round.  Fans of the game realize the series would be decided on the play of Marc-Andre Fluery vs. Cristobal Huet, while the true head to head would be Alex Ovechkin vs. Evgeny Malkin.
