Cashman

caliber as a member of the Yankees but I think his performance is season thus far has proven Brian Cashman correct. If the Yankees had traded Melky Cabrera, Phil Hughes, and Ian Kennedy for Johan Santanna, Yankee fans would be asking for more. I know Hughes and Kennedy have no wins this year but Hughes is only 20 years old and has great potential. He needs time to devlop. I am not sure what Kennedy turns into and I would have definetly been fine with trading him in a deal just not packaged with Hughes. It just wasnt fair for the Yankees to give up prospects and a huge contract.

It seems to me that Brian Cashman has made yet another decision blunder for the Yankees organization. This was his call, and call it he did. Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy (neither one of whom are in the Yankees rotation at this point in time) are a combined 0-10, with two no decisions and something like an 18.00 ERA. This is completely unacceptable. Phil Hughes however, I would have a hard time dealing with, but... he has been hurt twice now at the age of 21. Santana, nothing as of yet, with a couple of Cy Youngs to speak of. Ian Kennedy? 18 innings of scoreless work last season, ok great. Enough to hold him back as the last piece of the Santana to the Yankees trade? I think not. I would love this whole scenario to prove me wrong, but it doesn't look good and right now, we have to listen to rumors of David Wells and a possible return to the Bronx. Can we sign any more 40+ year old pitchers?!?! Should the Yankees offer

le on the Mike and the Mad Dog Show yesterday said that he is starting to hear rumblings that Brian Cashman may want out of his position with the Yankees.

Honestly, with what Hank Steinbrenner has shown so far (trying to be like his dad in the 70s and 80s), I can't really blame Brian for thinking about leaving.  I feel like Hank speaks just to speak and what he says doesn't hold too much weight.  He should let the baseball people, i.e. Brian

Theo just seems much more willing than Cashman to go to the wall to get what he wants.

Next chapter: With CC Sabathia waving off the Indians' four-year/$72 million offer (or so the reports say) he is sure to be wearing pinstripes at this time next season. The Yankees brass must be slobbering over the fact that they will clear out more than $40 million in pitchers' salaries at the end of 2008, by bidding bye-bye to Pettitte, Mussina, Pavano and Farnsworth. With those contracts out the door, their best-paid starter will be Kei Igawa at $4 million -- if he hasn't been shipped elsewhere. That means a huge opportunity to open the purse strings for Carsten Charles Sabathia -- while setting aside enough dough for Chien-Ming Wang.
