This was his call, and call it he did. Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy (neither one of whom are in the Yankees rotation at this point in time) are a combined 0-10, with two no decisions and something like an 18.00 ERA. This is completely unacceptable. Phil

It was announced during the 7th inning of tonight's game against the Tigers that Phil Hughes will be placed on the 15-day DL with a strained oblique.

This could be an excuse to get him some extra sidework in and try and fix some of the problems he has had to start the year.  Something has to be done, and the Yankees really need him to come back off this stint, a new pitcher, mainly the one he is supposed to be.  He has shown little glimmers of hope, but has obviously been terrible so far this season.

Well we can put another notch in Phil Hughes’ cap.  82 pitches thrown in 3.2 IP, which by the way is his average innings pitched per start.  He is lost right now and unless the Yankees get some sort of help in the form of a starter that can eat up innings, you may want to buy stock in whatever company is in charge of transporting pitchers from Scranton-Wilkes Barre to the Bronx.

THE BAD:

The starting pitching; Kennedy and Hughes have been terrible (I am trying to be polite on my first blog) and the bullpen is sure to wear out very quickly if the starters don't start accumulating quality innings.
