Jeter

15 August 2009

s (A-Rod & Tex) with a multitude of players all having "career" years. Jeter, Damon, Cano, Posada, Swisher and Matsui all coming up with doubles, triples and HRs at various times on a daily basis. This was very much like '61 when Johnny Blanchard, Elston Howard, an ageing Yogi Berra and Moose Skowron all hit over 20 HRs and Howard hit .348 IN ADDITION to Mantle and Maris's combined 115 HRs. And, yes, the pitching has jelled beautifully. But without the kind of offense the Yankees are getting THROUGHOUT the lineup now the Ws would simply not stack up as well.

He also had a hit earlier, stole second, and scored on a Jeter single. Instead of a Reyes run for the Mets, maybe that becomes a Gardner run for the Yankees. And finally this game showed the Yankees can still grind out wins. They can do whatever it takes and get the job done.

Besides Jeter and A-Rod who are the top two vote getters I believe that they should be joined by Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Jason Giambi, and Johny Damon. Damon is hurt so he should be named and he wont even need to play. Mussina is 2nd in the league with 11 wins and showed Francona what he can do last night. Giambi is in top 5 in OPS and HR's and could easily fill in for Ortiz as the DH. A case can be made for Matsui but I do not think that there will be more than 5 Yankees.

Melky gets a single so Damon and Jeter swing at next two pitches (pop up and GIDP,) it was almost as if the team had somewhere else to be. Maybe a party with Madonna? Maybe Jon Lester was just great lastnight but I think the Yankees lineup was at fault and didnt do anything to tire him. Instead of facing a tired Sox bullpen, now it is rested and ready for the last 3 games of the series.

I dont care who you face the offense needs to get the job done. Jeter, Giambi, Abreu, Cano, A-rod, Damon, Gardner, Betemit get the job done tonight and lets face Boston with a positive feeling.

No wonder there are websites completely devoted to the firing of Joe Morgan.  How can anyone take this guy seriously as far as being a broadcaster is concerned.  This guy's hatred for the Ya

Well Hank Steinbrenner laid down the first of what are probably many ultimatums and for one night, it worked.

The Yankees get a win and yet again, limited offense...but it was enough.

THE GOOD:

That is a deadly trio to deal with.

Jason Giambi...had another big rbi hit.

Derek Jeter…Hit his first home run of the season to get the Yanks’ offense started today.

Sorry for the lack of pre-game thoughts...goddam traffic.

Well any Yankee fans that doubted Cliff Lee’s start are silent tonight.  He was dominant for 7 innings, plain and simple.  For the most part, Chien-Ming Wang was good, despite a few early mistakes.

THE BAD:

Joba Chamberlain…I have a theory that Joba is already in a class with Jeter, Posada, Pettitte and Rivera when it comes to Yankee fans holding them in extremely high regard.  Even so, he lost the game for us tonight, hopefully something we don’t say too often this season.  (I for one am not panicking)

So the Yankees open a 3-game set against the Indians tonight at the Stadium.  Andy Pettitte goes for the Yanks against Fausto Carmona.

Carmona (3-1, 2.60 ERA) has pitched well to start the year for the Tribe, although he has walked twice as many batters has he has struck out.

Well we can put another notch in Phil Hughes’ cap.  82 pitches thrown in 3.2 IP, which by the way is his average innings pitched per start.  He is lost right now and unless the Yankees get some sort of help in the form of a starter that can eat up innings, you may want to buy stock in whatever company is in charge of transporting pitchers from Scranton-Wilkes Barre to the Bronx.

THE UGLY:

Injuries...This injury bug seems to have been with us for the past few seasons....Jeter first, then A-Rod (who will be out of the lineup tonight, btw), Bruney (who is most likely done for the year) and of course Jorge Posada-that one hurts the most.
