Joba

All it took was a Yankee win and a Red Sox loss. It happened! We are now in first place by 1/2 game. The big question is: can they stay there? It all depends. The offense has to give enough run support per game so that once the starters' pitch count gets high and Girardi wants to take them out, the bullpen can make a mistake here and there, and get the ball to Mariano. Earlier in the season, the Yankees didn't have this. Believe it or not, the key was A-Rod being in the line up. Just merely him being in the lineup, Teixiera started getting hot. Everybody was pitching around Mark before A-Rod came back, hence his slow start. Posada is back as well, the offense can have even more depth. I give credit to Cash and Cervelli though they did an outstanding job standing in the gap.

would be nice to see Joba set a tone for the weekend and come out firing against Beckett and the formidable Sox Lineup.

Now, onto this Barry Bonds stuff...Haven't the Yankees had their fill of the whole steroid thing?  Barry Bonds going to Tampa is one thing, but can you imagine what the press would do if he wound up in New York...STAY AWAY.

Young guys like Joba Chamberlian, Dustin McGowan, Fausto Carmona and Clay Buckholz will be the future in the American League. They will look to join Scott Kazmir in the youth movement. The best pitching prospect in the American League might still be in Single A. He is David Price, a lefty who throws almost 100mph. He could be a big factor in the Rays playoff run.

Following the Yankees 18 run outburst it looked like they were back and ment business. Apparantly that was just a mirage as this team continues to struggle. The only thing consistant about this team is their inconsistency. One day they look amazing like world beaters (either with a pounding like wednesday or by doing enough to beat Santanna Sat) and then they have games like lastnight or monday, tuesday where they do nothing right and their general interest in the game has to be questioned.

The Yankees will of course have their pitching lined up as they send out Pettitte, Moose, and Joba in 3 of the 4 games. The Yankees Red Sox series are always intense and unpredictable. Usually

It has only taken 5 starts for Joba Chamberlain to strikeout the doubters who wanted to keep him in the bullpen. With each start the kid is showing exactly why he needs to be a starter. The team is 4-1 in his starts, 2 of those starts he was greatly handicapped with his pitch count. Many questioned his stamina but he has answered those questions by throwing 97 MPH Fastballs in the 7th inning. People questioned if he has enough pitches, he has shown a plus fastball and slider, an above average curve, and a decent change-up that he can use a few times a game to keep hitters off balance. And as each start goes by he is gaining more confidence in pitches that were shelved as he was in the bullpen. He has shown un believable presence on the mound and he really knows how to pitch. How many 23 year old pitchers get out of a bases loaded nobody out situation with 2 k's and a tag out at the plate. (Ok i realize it was bad base-running but amazing poise for an energetic kid.)

The Yankees need to get going in every part of the game. Their strongest assets, Joba and Mariano, can't contribute if the team doesn't put them in position to do so.

nse scratches out enough to put the team in position to win…the unexpected happens.

Joba Chamberlain serves up a 3-run home run to David Delucci and instead of a 4-game winning streak going into tomorrow’s game with Chien-Ming Wang on the hill, we will spend the next 20 hours or so talking about how
