Miami Heat

I understand that Shaquille O'neal is a man that transcends just the NBA, but watching him attempt to play against other athletes in their own sport is extremely difficult to swallow.  Watching Shaq attempt to swing a bat was like watching a baby giraffe trying to walk.  It was hard to watch yet I could not take my eyes off of it, like a car accident.  The 7'1" O'neill attempted to out-slug Albert Pujols, out-spike beach volleyball stars Misty May and Kerri Walsh, and out-throw Ben Roethlisberger, needless to say he could not out-do anybody at anything.  The show is a half hour too long and the hosts are extremely annoying.  The most important part of the show, the actual competition, takes place in the last fifteen minutles of the show making the first 45 minutes irrelevant.  Here are some short examples of the show from Youtube:

Okay, let's just be honest here.  Nate Robinson may not have fully deserved the 2006 NBA Slam Dunk Contest Title, but he sure earned it this year.  Nate battled the defending champion, Dwight Howard, in the Finals and one-upped the ultimate gamesman in the end.  Together they put on possibly the greatest show in the history of the contest since the days of Michael Jordan battling Dominique Wilkins.

ronto Raptors traded Jermaine O'Neal, Jamario Moon, and a lottery-protected first round pick to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.  On the surface this looks like a great trade for the Heat, but it can also cause potential problems for the Knicks as they do battle with the Raptors twice next week and will continue to battle them down the stretch in the Chase For The Eighth Seed.

With the MLB playoffs set to begin, there is a subtle difference in the air compared to start of any other postseason. In the NHL, fans can potentially look forward to a great Canadians/Bruins series that is not only exciting, but has a historical kick to it. Likewise basketball fans always have the chance to see if the Suns can finally get past the Spurs and football fans love seeing the rivalry of the Eagles Vs the City of Philadelphia when the Eagles so much as get tackled for a loss.

The Miami Heat:

 Lastly, a team that actually made draft picks, the Heat. I love the nucleus of an all out big guy that can score in Michael Beasley, one of the best pure leaders of the game in Dwayne Wade, and an athletic swingman in Shawn Marion. And don't underestimate one of the steals in the draft at #34 Mario Chalmers of Kansas; a gritty, defensive minded point gaurd who knows how to lead a team. Pat Riley may not be happy, and Beasley may be the next Derrick Coleman- but from where I stand they did the most with what they had.

Apparently the Miami Heat and the Phoenix Suns have agreed on a trade that would send Shaquille O'Neal to Phoenix in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. I believe this is simply a knee-jerk reaction to the Los Angeles Lakers' acquisition of Pau Gasol (a brilliant move by L.A., by the way) and do not see how this trade can make sense from the Suns' vantage point.
